method of
preparation
SERVES 2

Step 1
Begin by giving the masur dal and rice a refreshing rinse under running water until they gleam crystal clear. Allow them to soak in water for about 30 minutes, then give them a gentle drain.
Step 2
In a pressure cooker or a deep pot, sizzle some ghee or heat oil. Toss in those cumin seeds and let them burst into flavour. Follow with the finely chopped onion, sizzling it till it turns as clear as a crystal ball.
Step 3
Put in the chopped tomato, carrot, green peas, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and a pinch of salt. Mix them well and sauté for a couple of aromatic minutes. Now, add the soaked dal and rice to the medley. Let them mix well with the sautéed veggies.
Step 4
Pour in enough water to envelop the dal and rice blend. Seal the pressure cooker or cover the pot and allow it to simmer until they’re both soft. For the pressure cooker, it takes around 4-5 whistles, while the pot requires about 20-25 minutes of gentle heat.
Step 5
Once it's done, let the pot cool down. Unveil and give the khichdi a good stir. Tweak the consistency with more water if desired. Crown this fibre-rich masur dal khichdi with a flourish of fresh coriander leaves.

Organic food refers to food that is produced or farmed using organic farming methods. This means that these foods are grown without the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. Only natural methods like vermicomposting and plant-based pesticides are used in the cultivation process.

Organic products stand apart from conventional products due to their unique cultivation and production methods. These products can only be grown on dedicated organic farmland, which typically takes 3 to 4 years to prepare. The cultivation also strictly prohibits the use of synthetic chemicals and pesticides. Instead, organic farming embraces sustainable practices, prioritizing environmental conservation and soil health.
